Online Safety Tips for Teens

1. Keep your identity private.
Never give out personal information such as your name, address, phone number, school name, or passwords.

2. Never get together with someone you “meet” online.
Anyone can make up a false identity to use online. People are not always who they say they are.

3. Never respond to e-mail, chat comments, instant messages or other messages that are hostile, inappropriate or in any way make you feel uncomfortable.
If you feel uncomfortable or afraid about a situation, ask an adult you trust for help.

4. Never download material or click links to websites if you receive them from someone you don’t know.
Links you receive from unknown sources could lead you to site you don’t want to view or cause you to download a virus.
